Unbeknownst to anyone, including perhaps the travel agency themselves, they no longer book approved travel automatically, you need to complete an unspecified extra step before they will actually book your flight.
In practice, this step appears to be calling the service desk and insisting that they book the travel that is already fully scheduled and approved in the system.
All of which I discovered at the check-in desk yesterday where the agents informed me I didn't have a seat on the flight I was trying to board.

I work on a laptop running Ubuntu #Linux. I can access almost everything I need from the work network, mostly using the Chrome browser. However, for a few things, mostly Adobe's proprietary extensions to PDF forms, I need Windows. I have a virtual machine on my Linux computer for this purpose.
Starting it up takes *minutes*, and opening Acrobat to fill in a single form regularly takes 15 minutes or more start to finish.
I've also got a desktop running windows in the lab down the hall. Once or twice a year I'll think, "this is dumb, I can just walk a few steps and use my Windows computer for this". So I do. And it takes *just as long* to go through all the boot/log-in/setup steps as my virtual machine.
It's a wonder we get anything done with #gc IT systems.
Mein Sohn wurde gestern Abend nach dem Derby im gut besetzten Bus von einem Typen in #FCZ-Attire, der aus einer Gruppe gleicher heraus agierte, genötigt, seine Jacke zu öffnen um festzustellen, ob er #GC-Fanartikel hätte.
Nachdem dieser Kretin ausgestiegen war, fragte ein zusehendes älteres Paar die übrigen der Gruppe, was passiert wäre, hätte mein Sohn solche Artikel bei sich gehabt. Die Antwort war, dass er dann mit dem Typen hätte aussteigen müssen.

Just received our regular reminder that in order to reduce our spending, government travel will be restricted next year. Which is fine.
But - *all* travel counts towards our travel cap. Even travel paid for by a third party. So if a university invites me to speak, and will pay my expenses, it counts as *government spending*. Meaning, in order to spend less of our own budgets, we are also required to decline funding from outside sources.

A friend did her French test again today. Third time I think. Needs CCC to be promoted to the job she's been acting in for months, probably years at this point.

So many mid to late career civil servants hit this wall. It's heartbreaking. Especially when many of them are competing for the job they already do.
