I have a pretty old Kindle, bought in 2013 and running 4.1.3.
Does anyone know if I can replace the OS on it? I am interested in being able to read epubs and no longer be dependent on the Amazon store.

After paying 20 bucks to get ads removed on my old-ish #Kindle Paperwhite, not getting what I paid for, and a few back-and-forths with the #Amazon customer service, I am told that it is not possible to be done.

Like, what makes it so dificult to remotely turn on a damn toggle button? Then, why do you even offer it to me in the first place.

Anyway, I think I might be looking for an affordable and DRM-free #ebook reader alternative.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

TIL: Whatever #ebooks or documents you put on a #Kindle, they're being indexed & uploaded automatically to the #Amazon server if the device has an internet connection. Just found out with an unpublished #manuscript that someone wanted to read on their Kindle and it ended up on the Amazon server, although it was put onto the Kindle manually via cable. Is there a extremely noob-friendly, step-by-step guide to using #amazon #kindle bulk downloader? I know it needs a thing called #bun, which I have installed, but no one explains exactly how one inputs one's Amazon email and password.

I am moving my ebook purchases away from #amazon and the #kindle app.

The best I can figure is I have to allow the purchase to go through and then return it right away and wait up to 30 days for a refund

Anyone else succeed in downloading your #Kindle books, yet when you try to strip the #DRM with #Calibre (after installing the #DeDRM plugin), you get a message saying “Cannot convert ____ This book is locked by DRM”? I haven’t been able to convert a single book. It doesn’t help that the plugin’s ReadMe is pretty vague.
