#bgstats #brettspiele @boardgames

New tat new tat new tat!! Spent the day in the studio giving myself a weapon :>

Learned a lot during this! Mostly that I need to slow down and get my depth consistent, especially with lines. Also that different colours feel different to tattoo with, which is interesting. 3rd pic is under 2nd skin!

October Availability by appointment: Tuesdays from 12pm-6pm (new hours!)

@haselbach perhaps I need a #scythe tutor / loaner / rental / for hire in #pdx #Portland. It only needs to be cut 3-4 times per year, maybe more if I cut it more often. #NoMowMay quickly turns into dormant July/Aug/~Sept, but it would be good to remove some of the dry grass biomass / seed (without broadcasting seed into the garden beds like a string trimmer does.) and let the clover dominate more going into the summer drought.

I have the hedge trimmer (double-sided toothy thing) on a stick, that can be angled up to cut low-laying stuff, but the blades are barely fine enough for scissoring the tall grass stems, and grass gets pulled in / binds them up. It's also pretty heavy and my elbow is still mad about when I ran it a couple weeks ago. Short of becoming a #scythe guy, I'm not finding much better options than making a mess with a string trimmer and raking it up (all those grass seeds in the mulch beds though 😬)

Actually, thinking back, this will be the third year I have been using it on my urban grass, last year I a got a second blade, a 40cm ditch blade, which is perfect for tougher stuff in the garden, like the bits I have turned into ‘wild meadow’, and in confined space. #grass #scythe

Using a European (or Austrian, as it’s usually called in the English speaking world) scythe is not particularly hard, I learnt to use it donkey’s years ago on my great grands farm, and like most things there is a technique to it, though it’s fairly intuitive (and these days there are plenty of online materials); if I wanted to cut a bowling green standard lawn with it, I would need to work on it, and on maintaining the blade edge to a higher standard, but, I don’t. 🙂 #grass #scythe

Some of the #grass in the back was getting over half a meter, so it was time to give it a trim with the #scythe, took it down to four inches or so. Back when I first decided to let the grass grow for the sake of the critters, tackling it with an electric strimmer was total pain. It’s why I got myself a scythe last spring, it makes dealing with tall grass easy and quick, and fun.

I think it's time to bring out the #scythe from hibernation, I gather my wife has ordered a skipping rope, so the wee patch in the back that gets cut needs to be ready for when it gets here. Something else to entertain the neighbours with (the skipping rope I mean, the scythe they are used to by now).

There are #games which took the same challenge and handled it wonderfully. Look at #scythe 's #gameDesign :

Everyone thinks that either economy or military strength are the most important, while it's the popularity you gathered (it's a multiplier for all the other victory points). It tells you how stable your rule over the region will be after your "campaign", which is more important than shooting X bullets or mining Y coal.

Why couldn't sustainability board games have multipliers as well?
