Meet Charlie the Common Tern, not your everyday Tern, but one of several denizens of the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside NY that lay claim to MNSA Director Michael Farina. A different "kettle of fish" (to use a Common Tern expression) from the Terns nesting in various colonies on LI, where they would rather dive bomb your head than land on it. And, when you visit, tell 'em Charlie sent you!

Forget this "You can do it if you put your mind to it" bollox. Some things are just impossible for some people. Identifying Gull species is one. If you ask an expert why that one is a Herring Gull and that one is a Common Gull you will be there for a month. What they are trying to say is "Because it is - ok?". So people, which is which? Punters with my surname are barred from answering. #Ornithology #Seabirds #Gulls #Nature

Même si elles sont plus nombreuses au nord, saviez-vous qu'elles nichent aussi au Cap Fréhel en Bretagne 🇫🇷 ?
Cette espèce est notamment connue pour construire ses nids sur de minuscules corniches de falaises abruptes !
