Male Western Tanagers have been compared to “a flame” due to their bright orange, yellow & black coloration. I recently got to see 1 in our neighbors’ pine tree in Tucson, AZ & illustrated it for my Perpetual Journal.

Another beautiful day--cool, partly cloudy, breezy and totally lacking mosquitos. Because it was so cool, the birds were waiting in long lines by the time the feeders came out at 10am. A male summer tanager has been coming to the jelly feeder for a few weeks. I didn't think he would stay because I didn't see any female summer tanagers. But today, for the first time, I saw her at the feeder. Perhaps there is hope that they will stay after all and I will get to see baby tanagers.
