@tapforms Tap forms pro is the best, most accessible database app I’ve used to date. It works extremely well with #Voiceover, which is critical for me, since I’m #VisuallyImpaired.

Braille instructions on escooter share?
Good Sunday morning all!
In Halifax, Nova Scotia, as you see here, there are what I presume are instructions for use in Braille. Is that a thing? How does that work?
Have any of my visually impaired followers used or heard of such a thing?
Has @TimBousquet seen these and had a feature about them in the @HalifaxExaminer ?

I got into a couple of interactions around alt-text recently again. Actionable advice before opinion:
Use #alt4me #alt4you and/or one of the altbots out there. The dynamic is wholesome, and it helps both content creators and #visuallyImpaired
And don't be a jerk about it.
I'm looking for help to do better here, so I'll share a poorly opinion of three parts:
1. what is good alt-text
2. how to improve alt-text
3. how not to be a jerk
I'm hoping for your feedback, so don't be shy (1/…)
A question for #blind and #visuallyimpaired people, but sighted people can answer too!
I was on the phone with my aunt today, who's blind, and she heard about the new Meta AI Raybans, theses glasses that can see and talk to you through #MetaAI.
Apparently right now only people in the USA, Canada and UK can directly ask questions to the AI about their direct surroundings. She lives in France.
But someone told her he connected these glasses to the free application Seeing AI, and that works great apparently.
I'd be very interested to know more about it, as I'll visit her soon and we could buy them and set them up together.
Has anyone tried them?

Last year I wanted to get back into #blackAndWhite #filmPhotography, after years of not feeling comfortable shooting my old Pentax, because of my vision.
I thought about getting the Pentax 17 for its zone focusing and economical use of film. I tried it at a store and it felt too much like a toy for its price and I didn’t like the viewfinder.
Instead, I got an Instax Mini for less money but with more self-confidence about its toy-ness. I’ve really been enjoying it.
Meanwhile, I decided to get a wider lens for the Pentax and shoot a couple of expired rolls of film. Estimating distances to use the scale and the lens and stopping does actually got me really good results. I found a local place that does pretty affordable development and scans - I’ve done those myself, but I don’t want to deal with chemistry these days.
So now I have two cameras to sink film money into. Hurray? I think so. I get a lot out of doing #photography, including the stubborn satisfaction of doing it while #visuallyImpaired.

Maine State Library issues layoffs, cites inability to access federal funding
The Maine State Library announced Wednesday 13 staff members, whose positions are supported by federal funding, were laid off.

"The Maine State Library announced layoffs on Wednesday, citing an ongoing inability to access federal funding.
"The announcement comes after President Donald #Trump signed an executive order in March deeming the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) 'unnecessary' and slated to be dismantled, later placing the entire agency's staff on administrative leave.
"The Maine State Library said in a news release that IMLS funding represents 30 percent of its annual budget and has not received any communication from IMLS on if or when funding might be restored.
"The state library said it last received funds from its 2025 federal award advance through the IMLS on March 24.
"Thirteen employees whose positions are supported by federal funding have been laid off, the state library said. Those employees represent approximately 30 percent of Maine State Library staff.
"The Maine State Library said the layoffs could be rescinded if funding is restored.
"Starting on Thursday, the Maine State Library will close for a two-week reorganization period where its location at 242 State St. in Augusta will not be open to the public.
"'Losing access to this Federal funding harms Maine residents and will have negative consequences in communities across the state," Maine State Librarian #LoriFisher said in the release. 'Despite these significant cuts, the Maine State Library remains committed to advancing the mission of libraries in Maine and to serving every library patron to the best of our ability.'
"In 2024, the Maine State Library says it received $1,526,754 from the #IMLS Library Services and Technology Act Grants to States program which supports services including #HighSpeedInternet for public libraries; #InterlibraryLoans, #EBooks, and #audiobooks; services for #VisuallyImpaired patrons; and professional development for library staff.
"The library says it is continuing to evaluate the range of impacts on library services from the funding cuts and hopes to provide further updates as they become available.
"Following Trump's executive order, Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey joined 20 other attorneys general in a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from dismantling a handful of agencies, including the IMLS."
