Nagasaki marked 80 years since the U.S. atomic bombing of the city on a rainy Saturday, amid frustration among the dwindling number of survivors that their powerful calls for eradicating nuclear weapons are falling on deaf ears.

#WWII Thirty-five years ago today I visited Hiroshima's Peace Park and Memorial and folded paper cranes.

Sadako Sasaki was just two when the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima. Though she survived the blast, she later developed leukaemia from radiation exposure. Inspired by a Japanese legend, she folded over 1,000 origami cranes, wishing for recovery and peace. timesnownews.com/lifestyle/peo

In the 2023 movie, U.S. Secretary of War Henry Stimson casually removes the ancient capital from a list of potential targets for the atomic bomb, claiming he and his wife honeymooned there

In World War II, Kyoto was spared as a target of the atomic bomb. But the ancient capital was bombed several times by conventional means and carries the marks of those attacks through the present day. japantimes.co.jp/life/2025/08/ #life #travel #wwii #kyoto #atomicbombings

As someone from Taiwan, how the #WWII ended at Pacific battle fields has always been an important and mind bending cautionary tale for me. The Imperial Japanese Government did many genocidal acts during their campaign and colonisation. I think it is fair to say hatery towards Japanese officers in the colonies and occupied territories is quite widespread. But that doesn't mean Allies dropping atomic bombs in Hiroshima is forgivable. Evil doesn't mean you should do evil back.
