Here's another cool feature of Bonfire. One account, many profiles.

When you create an account, you can create multiple profiles, each with it's own unique followers, content and settings (and emojis!).

1 account. 1 password. Many profiles.

Ownership of profiles can be shared with others. A news publication can share posting responsibilities, for example.

Fun fact (really). The Bonfire fediverse platform allows each **individual user** the ability to upload their own set of custom emojis.

There seems to be no limit to how many, tho I'm sure there will have to be as it gets more popular. And it will. Looking snazzy!

I believe this is the sort of thing they're working on for Bonfire Social. The team are nearing a 1.0 release and keen to get feedback on the latest release candidate;

Bonfire x Newsmast

We’re excited to share that Bonfire and @newsmast are working together.

We’re collaborating across several key areas:

🔎 Enhancing discoverability for Channels on Bonfire

🧭 Improving interoperability between the Channels mobile app and Bonfire

🌌 Partnering to offer services for organisations around Bonfire’s Mosaic initiative

As we integrate #OpenAlex data into the #Bonfire #OpenScience flavor, we're displaying familiar metrics: works count, citations, h-index, research topics, institutional affiliations...
These might be exactly what you need, or perhaps just a starting point.
What additional information would help you find collaborators or understand someone's work better?
We're opening this design process to the open science community. Share what works, what doesn't, what's missing.

I think we're back to the "where to move this account" question. (and I have yet to find an answer.)

- First, when Firefish died, I thought the answer was going to be the new
#Iceshrimp, but it's been more than a year and I'm not sure it's going to be a thing ever. (And I never fully liked Sharkey, for reasons)

- Next, I tried
#Akkomane. I thought it was going to be the place, but a few things were deal breakers (I forgot which ones, whoops... but they did greatly bother me at the time)

- Then came
#Wafrn. Despite the unpractical name, I love the idea (it uses both ActivityPub and ATProtocol natively), but the UI is just not for me.

- I've been waiting for
#Ghost 6.0 release for a little while now. It's imminent. However, it doesn't seem that they will release a full #microblogging platform. I doubt that it'll be much different from the beta (which is great, but can't replace a full-blown platform)

- And I'm extremely interested in
#Bonfire, but it won't be ready for users like me for another few months I believe...

Meanwhile, my feed hasn't been working for weeks on my account's
#Firefish page, and now, the notifications have stopped working with #Phanpy (I've used this account, partly with the native UI and partly with Phanpy for a little while).

I guess a temporary
#Mastodon account will have to be it until something that can replace it comes along (I'm confident that Bonfire will be the one, but I was confident Iceshrimp and Akkomane were going to be the ones too... So... 🤷)

🌊 Exciting news! Crowdinblue - a mission-led initiative bridging water solutions with funding - has chosen #Bonfire to build their federated community space!
Together, we're designing custom extensions to connect water projects with impact investors and crowdfunding opportunities. All in a federated environment that puts communities and projects first.
Welcome to the Bonfire ecosystem, crowdinblue! 💚

More #Geosocial coming..

@bonfire request feedback on #UX designs for #Bonfire Geosocial.

The designs may also be inspiring to other devs working on #Geo functionality for the #fediverse and there's opportunity to align approaches for max #interoperability.

People are highly encouraged to start related more general discussion topics on improving protocol support for geosocial-enabled #ActivityPub platforms in the federated forum categories.

bonfirenetworks.orgAnnouncing the Bonfire Social 1.0 Release CandidateAfter a long stretch of co-design, development, and reflection, we’re excited to share the Bonfire Social 1.0 Release Candidate — a version ready for real-world testing and feedback before the official 1.0 release.

Haven't turned on Federation yet, but my Bonfire instance is looking good. My second install of Bonfire. I can tell you two things: Installation was much easier this time, and performance is much better.

One note, Bonfire recommends a hungry 8 GB of memory to run, but with that amount, it runs nicely so far. I'll keep you updated, hoping to turn federation on by next weekend. (This will be an invite only instance for brave individuals that want to assist with testing)
