Blog - returning to Mary Stewart's "The Crystal Cave".
TL;DR: the new edition of the #Pendragon #ttrpg has inspired me to return to my favourite version of the Arthurian legend.

The Gay Wedding of Jackson Elias.
Plus I also managed sneak peeks at Chainsaw, Echoes of Yesterday, new editions of #13thAge and #Pendragon, and #Space1999. Some brief thoughts on specific games follow…
Chainsaw: This Mörk Borg derivative, still in playtesting, works very well for running slasher horror, though I find its fear mechanic currently too crunchy (and deathy!) a death spiral. It's still in development, though, so hopefully this'll be addressed before its release.

I secretly switched the campaign game system from a D&D game to Chaosium's Pendragon. I like to think of it as my Companion Set for when the character's reach name level.
The player's are freaking out (a bit) that they only get to go on one adventure per year. And that their character's are actually going to age 1 year per adventure.
I rather like that outcome, because it often feels like the player's have no concept of their character's mortality.
Venturing into #pendragon a bit further I checked out The Great Pendragon Campaign (2007) and it's predecessor The Boy King 2nd ed. (1997).
And it's quite the impressive work. The 2007 book is nothing less than a running background campaign from the times of Uther to the end of Arthur, spanning over 100 years, always including multiple hooks how to get PCs invested in the plot. It has some issues, but it also gives a coherent plot line to follow...

Hmm... shouldn't a game be maybe less than 40 years old to be called innovative?
Thinking of buying Pendragon. Maybe.
Today on @GnomeStew I'm following up on a review from earlier this year. Back then, I looked at the Pendragon 6e Starter Set, and now the Pendragon 6e Core Rulebook is available.

Me: I need a list of random manor names for manors outside Salisbury.
Also Me: I can do data cleanup on 14k place names from the Domesday Book.
Today in building RPG utilities I may never need, I made a Pendragon manor household generator. Still needs some work (nobody dies), and I need non-binary terms of address for knights/nobles.

#RPGaDAY2023 Day 31 - Favourite RPG. **DON'T MAKE ME CHOOOOOOOSE!** There are so many, great, great games out there, and they all bring something different. Just this year I've hugely enjoyed #TrophyDark, #Liminal, #YellowKing, #BlueHack, #Numenera, #BlackSwordHack, #Pendragon, #MatronsOfMystery, #OSE, #Mausritter, #OutOfTheAshes, #RiversOfLondon and more. All were fabulous, all were different. So, my favourite RPG is all the RPGs - diversity rules!
When I first got regular internet access post/university, I joined two fandom communities - for Pratchett, and the #Pendragon RPG.
The former I am still in touch with, but the latter I mostly lost when the [KAP] mailing list died.
Does anyone know if there is a #PendragonRPG community on Mastodon?
@Some_Emo_Chick my wife had a #pendragon character very much like this lass. She wound up having an affair with Madoc ap Uther and giving birth to Eliwlod (not yet an eagle, but born in an enormous egg). Good times.
Spent last night using a bit of #TheQuietYear to help shape a small northern kingdom near York for a short upcoming Pendragon RPG campaign. Andrew Spencer-Lee did a wonderful job in helping to draw the lines and veils for the game, as well as helping us to create the stage for the adventure. My first time trying #Pendragon, so I’m looking forward to it.
I'm kinda excited for #Pendragon 6th Edition. I discovered the game when I was looking for lightweight #TTRPG rules. Back then, it seemed a bit dated. It's nice to see it now with a modern layout and design. I've never played it, but the rolling mechanics seem super interesting to me.
They released a free quick starter #PDF and I really want to try it out with my group: https://www.chaosium.com/pendragon-quick-start/
