RISC-V ist eine offene Befehlssatzarchitektur (Instruction Set Architecture, #ISA), die auf den Prinzipien von Reduced Instruction Set Computing ( #RISC ) basiert. Im Gegensatz zu proprietären Architekturen ist RISC-V kostenlos und offen. Im Hinblick auf Offenheit und Freiheit ist die Entwicklung von RISC-V-Hardware für #Linux ein wichtiger Schritt.
Zielsetzung primäre Architektur.
@zygoon @frameworkcomputer I have tried out the #RISC_V board directly on the #Ubuntu booth on #FOSDEM but while running a system update on the pre-installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, it ran out of storage space.
So I want to replace its storage by a more spacious one.
Zyga, what kind of storage and which size are you using? Mine came with a micro-SD card, I am not sure about the size, can be that it is only 8 GB or so.
Anyone can give me recommendations about which storage to use?

I had a blast at #RDevDay! I had wonderful pair programming session initiated by Jane He (who is working to get #RStats to compile on #risc_v architecture). We sent a patch to propose a fix of an old bug in `R CMD build`.

@phoronix Don't make a RISC-V laptop. We would have no idea how the display, keyboard, support, parts availability, serviceability, etc are going to be.
Instead, make a RISC-V motherboard designed to drop into a @frameworkcomputer laptop. The specs are entirely open. Then everything else becomes a known quantity, the upgrade path becomes cheaper, and the buyer's risk is lower. (It could also be used as a single-board computer with the available case.)

Wow, Cord-Landwehr is able to run KDE-Plasma on his Risc-V (VisionFive-2) board.
And as he claims - the result feels "much smoother than on my RPi4".
Wow.
He is describing the process how to make all that happen in detail, and boy - that must have been a huge pain (includes huge chunk mesa patches to make the $#+! proprietary graphics driver work).
