Remember the #Adani Carmichael coal mine and all the controversy that went with it? Remember how it was going to fund schools and hospitals with all the tax it was going to pay?

Well, it has been operating for 3 years and has paid no company #tax and is unlikely to ever pay any.

In the year ending 30 March 2025, it made $1.3 billion in #revenue but reported a loss. This was in large part because of annual payments to related parties for interest, lease expenses, as well as paying for services conducted by other Adani entitles.

#Resource projects love to spruik all the economic benefits before they get approval. But there is nothing holding them to delivering those benefits.

#LNP Senator Matt Canavan, one of the mine’s biggest proponents, is in the news today with claims about the high cost of net zero. Maybe the media should be asking him when Adani is going to start paying all that tax.

This mine is bad for the #environment. It has now become clear that it is bad for government budgets and ultimately bad for the people of #Queensland

How to Install and Run Faircamp

Faircamp is a static site generator made by @freebliss, which enables any music producer to build a complete website to showcase their music.

Compatible with pretty much any web host Faircamp makes it easy to present your sounds to the world in minutes with no database, no programming and no maintenance required.

However, if you’ve never had experience running a shell command before it may seem a little daunting at first look. That’s where @meljoann’s article on How to Install and Run Faircamp comes in super-handy.

First written in 2023 she has kept the article updated for newer releases of Faircamp. Just read through and follow her guide as you go and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Well, it may not look like much right now, but I'm working today on a #CrossStitch #Design #Resource for myself that I'll probably be trying to share at some point on my Ko-fi page.

Colors all have hues, shades & #Values. So I'm trying to organize DMC #Embroidery floss colors by values to make color transitions & shading easier when I'm designing new #CrossStitchPatterns. This is a computer screenshot to kind of show what I'm doing.

Quite honestly, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm insane... 😬

A screenshot of some of the work I've accomplished on organizing over 400 DMC embroidery floss colors by their values. So far, I've gotten through red, purple and blue, now working on green. On the left is a window showing my work screen in PC Stitch, which is the cross stitch design software I use. On the right, slightly behind the PC Stitch window, is a window with some color samples, DMC color numbers and partial color names. I think I must be nuts for doing this. I only needed about four color ranges for what I was actually going to work on today, and it just kind of evolved into a full-blown project that is kind of fun, but *very* time consuming!

These guys were clever to an extent we no longer can imagine. They were constrained by resources at a point they had to dig into very clever tricks to do their thing.

I really have unlimited respect for the Unix guys, from the roots to just now, because they had to do wonders with machines that your phone or calculator would easily beat. (The same respect will apply to people sending other people to the Moon).

Current devs would just stop, cry, and extend their resources by purchasing the next tier of “subscription” for their infrastructure.

You don’t have unlimited resources. You will never. Resources you overuse comes from an artificial paradise abusing nature, energy and even abusing your fellow humans.

Just have a break and consider the word “optimization” : learn tricks from ancestors and consider using resource AFTER having put your optimization skills in practice.

Don’t use bloated frameworks
Choose the right tool for the right usage.
Do think before typing code.

Also, as a user :
- learn to enjoy simple things which does not necessarily involves cloud computing, you know the good old days of home computing with everything safe at home ? (Do backups)
- you might reconsider all the AI bullshit and buzzwords and use the brain you had since day one : such a device, when used correctly, can produce poems, do calculations, send people in space, draw, paint, write texts and even summarize them for you. It even might do it better than the LLM model next door, you know. It just takes some practice. Brain will have limited resources but you can also use clever tricks too (e.g. pencil to swap RAM to paper when needed)
- When people push over-complicated solutions, tell them and prefer others.
- Advocate the use of simple tools that does the job honestly, without bells and whistles.

We people, at either end of the spectrum may encourage people to have a fair use of computer resources.
