"Ce que mon séjour dans la Silicon Valley m'a vraiment appris, c'est que si nous avons encore en France l'horizon d'une émancipation collective, aux États-Unis, la libération s'est d'emblée conçue comme individuelle, et dès la contre-culture hippie. À l'opposé de ça, la volte, c'est toujours le collectif. La horde, c'est toujours le collectif. Les furtifs, c'est toujours collectif ! Rien de ce que j'ai écrit n'est fondé sur la libération de l'individu comme entité solitaire. Ça c'est le rêve du néolibéralisme, sa limite profonde : il ne crois pas que les liens puissent libérer. Il les voit d'abord sinon uniquement comme des chaînes. C'est effectivement un motif viscéral de désespoir. Le biopunk, ce serait l'inverse sur cet axe-ci : comprendre que les interdépendances entre les êtres trament un milieu fécond et nourricier, une étoffe dont sont tissées nos libertés réelles. Rien de plus jouissif qu'un groupe qui marche bien, qui s'éclate, qui crée ensemble. Rien de plus intense qu'une amitié ou un amour qui t'ouvre au monde."

"(...) la SF est le genre le plus important pour notre époque, le plus libre et le plus puissant si tu veux interroger l'humanité et son futur. (...) c'est un outil fantastique pour penser et faire penser, pour faire de la politique intelligente et fine. Ma lecture du genre, qui vaut ce qu'elle vaut, est que la science-fiction a été dominée dans les cinquante dernières années par le cyberpunk et sa promesse indirecte ou souterraine d'émancipation des corps et des esprits par la technologie. Dès le début pourtant, et c'est le sens du suffixe « punk », les écrivains devinent déjà que ça va foirer, que le cyber comme augmentation de l'humain va être dévoyé, tordu, sali du dedans par les corporations et le capitalisme, par les pulsions de pouvoir de domination, la lâcheté et l'avidité, etc. Malgré tout, la promesse a été reprise par moultes entreprises de la Tech, les GAFAM en tête, par Apple par exemple, qui fait du « cyberpunk washing ». Ils ont préservé la promesse de libération par la techno, mais sans ce que ça implique de merde, de crasse, de dégradations, de perversions, etc. Ce n'est qu'une libération publicitaire, strictement individuelle. (...) La trahison de la promesses cyberpunk, son retournement en une immense machination de la dépendance, est le grand événement du XXIe siècle, bien plus important que toutes les guerres parce qu'elles structurent le quotidien de 6 ou 7 milliards d'individus dans tous les pays du monde. (...) Si tu crois à la puissance libératrice de la science-fiction, cette trahison implique de faire émerger un autre paradigme. Et cet autre paradigme, à mes yeux, c'est le vivant, à la fois animal et végétal, les bactéries, les virus, les champignons autant que les biotopes, c'est notre rapport à renouer avec les rivières, la montagne, l'océan, les forces. J'appelle ça le biopunk, même si le mot sonne un peu schtroumpf."

Ne serait-elle pas source de Dissonances, qu’elles soient cognitives, éthiques ou musicales ? Puisse cette édition nous montrer comment appliquer la maxime de Jean Cocteau : « L’harmonie, c’est la conciliation des contraires, et pas l’écrasement des différences » ! Aller sur Mars, utiliser le maléfique Palantir, s'offrir un voyage virtuel... sont des projets bien réels de la Silicon Valley. Inspirés par une science-fiction riche sans être prophétique, certains entrepreneurs de la tech semblent avoir oublié l'avertissement que contenaient ces oeuvres fictionnelles en les prenant comme mode d'emploi. #Antumbra chapter 1 update:

All first 3 pages are done! I'll upload them all together, as they are the prelude of many things happening in the past leading to current events! In the next the main story of Antumbra _finally_ starts in "present" (our future) time with Rid finally showing up...

All inking is done with g-pen, and all digital processing, filters, screentones, etc are done with #krita.

Comic page inked in black and white with cross-hatching and no digital processing. Read right to left, the traditional manga way. Top right panel shows a scientist looking at a petri dish with some thing inside it, while in a glovebox for biological security reasons, with a narration bubble that reads "some decades before, back in 1997 in a military biolab...." Top left panel shows tweezers grabbing a tendril of sorts from the petri dish, with a narration bubble reading "...23 floors beneath the ground". The panel below it (both of these are the same height as the top right) shows a specimen put in a slide plate under a magnifying lens of a microscope. Below that is a panel that shows a cell organism eating by engulfing a black solid substance that has rough ages and reads "the bacteria can survive within the synthetic fibrils and feed on iron for energy". Mid right shows the microscope man looking through the microscope again saying "and what is even more surprising and exciting is...". Mid left shows the cell with small bacterial colonies within and reads "...that the bacterial colonies within the fibrotic cells have a survival rate 90% higher than the wild types!". #Antumbra chapter 1 pages 1&2 update:

To unwind a bit from what's happening right now I went and did some minor editing on the first two pages. The major one was the text on page two, so that there is more empty space in the bubbles, and also mirrored some images so that one can easily understand that the page is read right to left (despite not being used to manga-style orientation).

I'd like to see jupiter.blue at the triple point of #cyberpunk, #biopunk, and #solarpunk.

Player actions disproportionally influence the direction the "story" goes.

Cyberpunk: A picotech dystopia dominated by the economics & corporations of the Europa Trade Zone.

Biopunk: The quest for bodily autonomy, and the rise of more and more synthetic humanoids.

Solarpunk: A utopian perspective on fates, scarcity and abundance, sharing and collectivism, and adapting (to/the) inhospitable environments.

#Antumbra chapter 01 page 2 finished!
Some changes compared to the initial draft, especially concerning the microscope researcher. The good-looking handsome model type didn't suit well, so I thought to go with a scruffy aesthetics...

The experiment continues with 1 more page and the past sequence is complete!

#Antumbra Chapter 1 page 2 in the making! Paneling done. Next step inking!
Top right panel was a nightmare due to the miscroscope guy's positioning... So much erasing... I hop that this guy's head movement towards the scientist behind him and then back to the microscope is natural and not "weird" or sudden.

#Antumbra chapter01 page 1 inking done! It still took more time that I thought, especially the top right panel, what with the creases and all...
Next step is to clean it up digitally and add screentones for extra effects and realism! I hope it'll work out good :) Stay tuned!!
