The strain has turned the animal care center into a 24/7 operation & necessitated a staffing increase. Money remains the biggest concern for the donation-reliant nonprofit. Employees have begun spending their money to support ops.

Among the #birds were young #turkeys, #geese & #quail, but the vast majority were #FreedomRanger #chicks. One concern for the shelter, Parana explained, was the increasing demand for space & feed, as Freedom Rangers take about 10 wks to reach maturity.

A response to "That's how the West was won" - #letterpress #linocut

I did an artist residency in Petaluma, CA across from a graveyard dating mostly to the 1870s and I have never seen so much infant/maternal mortality so clearly from that time period. And steamboat explosions wiping out whole families. And of course, no marble tablets for the people who lived there before those same unlucky settlers.

Also I saw California #Quail for the first time there! #art #printmaking #california

My art is made with our #quail eggs, dried flora, and other quail elements and celebrates the inherent beauty of #nature

I aim to put to use everything, from used egg shells to elements of processing "waste" through #art that reconnects people with food origins and other often passed-over nature, like weeds and ground covers. All of the #floral elements used we either grow or forage.
