I Heart You ❤️

This rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) looks like he has a big heart on his chest, doesn't he?

These birds are part of the family Cardinalidae, the same family as cardinals. Many species in this family are colorful.

You know, the photographs that I post here are not quite a vivid as the same photographs that I post at my pixel's gallery, because here, I reduce the size of the photos and usually make a slight reduction in the quality of the photos to make them easier to load.

Streaked Beauty

Last year, I posted a different photograph of this same bird, for some reason, I identified it as a house sparrow. I was completely wrong, forgive me because I knew not what I was doing. ;)

This is a female rose breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus).

Rose-Breasted Beauty

This rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) visited last spring and hung out for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, they didn't come by this year. May next year .... I thought that these birds belonged to the finch family (Fringillidae) but I was wrong they are part of the cardinal family (Cardinalidae). My error caused me to need to move some photos around in my collections. Birds in the cardinal family are quite colorful. If you'd like to see more, visit my gallery at: swede1952-photographs.pixels.c . Click on the Cardinal collection.

Colors of the Wild

This rose breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) was around last year about this time. I haven't seen any this year, but I still have hope.

"Bursting with black, white, and rose-red, male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are like an exclamation mark at your bird feeder or in your binoculars. Females and immatures are streaked brown and white with a bold face pattern and enormous bill. Look for these birds in forest edges and woodlands. Listen, too, for their distinctive voices. They sound like American Robins, but listen for an extra sweetness, as if the bird had operatic training; they also make a sharp chink like the squeak of a sneaker." - allaboutbirds.org

I blend.

This rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) certainly stands out. Is that a red "S" on his chest?

Be square.

I haven't quite figured out the body shape of this Rose-Breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus). It's like there's a box in the stomach, at least from this angle. Both legs look like they are on the right side. I think his body is twisted a bit, giving us that perspective. But this is a good photograph. He's at the top of one of our crepe myrtles, it doesn't have leaves yet because they initially came out during a false spring and a two-day freeze after that, withered the leaves - they'll grow again.

"Rose-breasted Grosbeaks often visit bird feeders, where they eat sunflower seeds as well as safflower seeds and raw peanuts. Even if you live outside their summer range you may still catch one visiting during spring or fall migration if you keep your feeders stocked." - allaboutbirds.org

I almost blend.

If only he didn't have that big red spot on his chest and white bottom, this rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) would be hard to see against the seed mix. This bird was at the feeder with a blue grosbeak this morning - interesting 🤔. This is another new bird for me - hurray 🎊🎉🎆. I have a few photos in a nearby tree which is a better setting, but this is the best one for showing his plumage.
