I was laid off recently so I'm looking for a new job!

I have a decade of experience as a web backend dev writing APIs in Python and Ruby in a variety of frameworks. I'm usually the git and Postgres expert on the team, and if you leave me alone I'll start writing tests and doing security updates. Used to help run PyLadies Vancouver, now PyCascades. Looking for: full-remote, hiring in Canada, minimal LLM nonsense

Another great article highlighting the many merits of #OCaml xvw.lol/en/articles/why-ocaml.

OCaml continues to be for me the most interesting language I've learned since the days of #Ruby and #Clojure, and it inspired me to play quite a bit with it's ML siblings #FSharp and #Rust as well.

Check it out!

xvw.lolWhy I chose OCaml as my primary languageA detailed explanation of why I chose OCaml as the ‘default’ programming language for every project.

So, #remote #freelancers in #tech, how do y’all get clients? As I sit here bored on this Sunday afternoon (having filmed enough LEGO videos to sustain my other YouTube hobby for the week), I can’t possibly relax, and I just want to write useful code in my spare time as well as doing my normal job and #OSS. Are the things I offer (#Ruby, #Rails, linting, patterns, DX) too niche? Do I need to get better at marketing?

I had this old jekyll based website that I had not touched for a couple of years. quite messy. lots of weird stuff and bad code.

I'm now revamping the whole site thanks to #Claude

And since it's jekyll, I get the chance to write #Ruby again.

I loved ruby before I moved to python
very happy

After 3 years at Shopify, I was just told they’re letting me go.

Due to my immigration status here in the US, I pretty much need a job right away. Remote preferred but also open to hybrid/in-person roles (Boulder/Denver metro). If you know anyone who’s hiring (and ideally sponsoring H-1B), I’d love to connect! Boosts much appreciated 🙏

A bit about me: 8+ years of experience, primarily in backend. Most recently worked on Shopify’s checkout platform, focusing on Shop Pay, used by millions of shoppers and handles billions in transactions annually.
