TIL that software (especially #scripting runtimes like #Python, #Perl, and #NodeJS) running in #Alpine #Linux containers is often slower than in other distros like #Ubuntu. This is despite Alpine being faster on startup and often vastly more efficient with CPU, memory, and storage.

It mostly comes down to Alpine’s use of musl libc rather than #GNU’s glibc. musl is optimized for minimalism, not raw performance. Also, the Alpine packages are often not compiled with as many optimizations.

Ok someone out here almost certainly knows, and I need a double check: does Alpine Linux ship with sysfs by default?

I mean there's a lot of things that half rely on sysfs being around for somewhat good reason, but I've got some indications it doesn't ship with it by default, and that seems wacky pants to me.

So I ask the Fedi!

#RUNBSD! But BoxyBSD now also starts to support #Linux! We're starting soon with the Linux support for already present users, offering free boxes:

* #AlmaLinux
* #Alpine
* #Debian
* #Devuan
* #CentOS
* #Fedora
* #Gentoo
* #OpenSuse
* #OpenEuler
* #RockyLinux

Just next to our core OS like #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD, #MidnightBSD and #DragonflyBSD (and #illumos). This should also make the step easier to compare and test different scenarios where BSD provides a different behavior compared to Linux systems.

Thanks to @gyptazy for the implementation!

Dear #fediadmin, regarding the current ongoing full force assault on our services by AI scrappers with all the risks associated (costs, services stability, data being stolen and so on) I can only recommend the setting up of #techaro #anubis requests filter to "weight the souls of incoming HTTP requests"

I tested it so far on #alpine #debian deployed services with either #caddy , #apache2 / #httpd and #nginx for the following services #nextcloud, #mastodon, #forgejo, #lemmy, #funkwhale, #bookwyrm and a #minecraft #mapviewer with little hassle and no big issues

Following the use of #anubis, all scrapper (AI and regular) logs dropped drastically and bandwitch usage was cut by two third on the mastodon instance and half for the others services

Do yourself and your users a favor try it : github.com/TecharoHQ/anubis

Almost everytime my linux laptop wakes from sleep, it's unbearably slow for a while where unlocking the GNOME Shell takes longer, applications take longer to load etc...

After using the laptop for a few minutes, it returns back to normal. I think it's related to CPU clock speeds or something and I haven't been able to solve this for so long. I hope someone can point me to how to fix it.

It's an HP with an Intel CPU and 32gb of RAM. I run alpine linux on it.
