Thanks to all the amazing people that have donated to postmarketOS, we were able to pay @flamingradian to make call audio more reliable in Linux Mobile: by replacing callaudiod with a wireplumber plugin!

Catching a real world and *unexpected* #Cellbroadcast message revealed some minor bugs in #phosh and its mobile settings but those were easy to spotted and fixes will land for 0.49. Overall #ModemManager, #cbd, and #phosh picked the message up as expected (and the channel setting worked as well):

With this change merged in #ModemManager, now if you enable the wakeup for modem device (wake phone from suspend when Call/SMS comes), it'll not wakeup for unsolicited events that are not relevant to user experience.

I'd like to understand how Android handles some QMI bits and found tooling by @joelselvaraj for that on the @postmarketOS wiki (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Modem_Debugging). That needs a patched Android kernel, so I took some notes how I got that to work on a Pixel 3a. Today was "Bundesweiter Warntag" in Germany so a good point in time to test #ModemManager's & #phosh's upcoming #cellbroadcast support .

The sounds emitted by #feedbackd are only stubs (and you don' t hear the haptic in the video but I promise it's there ).

There's three messages because the CBMs are sent out on three different channels.

#Crimson is the next version of #PureOS, the #Linux distribution that comes with the #Librem5 #phone. @purism provided a month ago the totally optional possibility to support the PureOS development financially.

Amongst other things a #ModemManager fix was upstreamed, which will benefit all devices with similar modems.

Dev versions of #ModemManager now support #GPS without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to #Geoclue (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/173), gnss-share (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-share/-/merge_requests/15), and my own simple #GNSS app Satellite (https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite/releases) (all 3 in different languages).

Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.

Today was cell broadcast test day in NL. @janvlug and @z3ntu thankfully captured Modemmanager logs. Piped that into my MM testcase and could parse it out all right:
