I'm looking to de-Google my Xiaomi Redmi A5 and I'm not sure which route to take.
Has anyone successfully de-Googled a Xiaomi Redmi A5? If so, which OS did you use and what was your experience like? @postmarketOS @mobian @linmob @ubuntu@a.gup.pe @ubuntu@ubuntu.social @omgubuntu

Dear distro maintainers and i build my own stuff people:
In case you want to check out 0.49 release upfront: we've tagged the first release candidates (0.49~rc1) of #phosh and related components
.
Release is planned 2025-08-15, just in time to celebrate at @FrOSCon .
Despite the date we hope it won't be 0815 (a common phrase in German meaning: boring) but has some exciting bits for everyone.
We've also tagged the companion releases for #feedbackd 0.8.4 and feedbackd-device-themes 0.8.5.
@raktheundead @phosh We have a lot of open options nowadays, no need to run anything closed. That's why we're doing the whole #phosh thing in the first place.
Pytanie do naszej fedi spoleczności:
Co macie zainstalowane na swoich sprzętach? Z czego korzystacie na codzień?
Może zacznę od siebie:
Pecet: #CachyOS, laptop: #Arch
Przeglądarka: #Firefox + uBlock, uMatrix, betterfox
Rpi: #LibreELEC + kilka dockerów
Telefon: #GrapheneOS, przeglądarka #ironfox
Telefon_2: #PostmarketOS z #Phosh
Router: #OpenWRT z #Luci + bloker reklam
Odkurzacz: #Valetudo
Ciekaw jestem waszych wyborów. Może podpatrzę coś ciekawego?
A może sami macie jakieś pytania do mojej konfiguracji?
Catching a real world and *unexpected* #Cellbroadcast message revealed some minor bugs in #phosh and its mobile settings but those were easy to spotted and fixes will land for 0.49. Overall #ModemManager, #cbd, and #phosh picked the message up as expected (and the channel setting worked as well):
If you use #Phosh (or another WM, like Sway, see below) without a session manager/greeter (like gdm, phrog,... - you are save on Mobian) that unlocks your keyring after login, be careful when using adding apps to your autostart (e.g., with https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/io.github.flattool.ignition/) that need an unlocked keyring to function (e.g., Fractal or Flare).
I managed to shoot myself in the foot with this twice (months ago and yesterday), starting to believe this was a weird hardware issue on my 256GB #oneplus6. I could not login into Phosh (it would be stuck on "Checking ..."), ssh login was also impossible - but nothing login related in journalctl (that I could access thanks to Jumpdrive and chroot).
(And now I'll look into setting up Phrog with #postmarketOS with systemd, because I want those notifications when my significant other tries to reach me but keep forgetting to start apps manually.)
@agx Thanks for the amazing work. Do you know anyone who might be interested in potentially paid work for adapting a desktop app UI to to mobile? The app in question is already packaged as a #flatpak and runs on #postmarketOS, #PureOS, #Mobian, etc but is not usable because the UI is not scaling even with #phosh mobile settings compositor scaling on.
More bits of #phoc's upcoming workspace support falling into place. It can now show a small indicator in the top left corner when switching work spaces:
Am I just dumb, or is there no way to minimize the standard phosh-keyboard in postmarketos?
...Or both?
@linuxphoneapps @erebion @martijnbraam Nice summary! Maybe one simplification: for #phosh itself you can toggle "use wallpaper" to off in mobile setting's lockscreen and overview panels. This removes the walllpaper and falls back to bg-color (which is black by default):

to everyone supporting this!
#Mobian for #PinephonePro has been steadily improving. I installed a weekly image back in December 2024 and have been updating it, watching the progress. The #phosh UI improvements have been amazing, and the phone runs as slick and smooth as any Android phone I've used. Recently, I noticed #OrganicMaps app is now available on it, and the Camera app, if installed from Flathub, actually works! I can finally take photos with both front and back cameras, and scan QR codes… https://tobykurien.com/post-1753770212

I haven't managed to crash the #phosh session or lock up my #FLX1 in more than eleven days thanks to #lmkd by @fakeshell. It now also has system notifications for much improved user feedback.
Oh and I got GPS working too! The least amount of troubleshooting required, I just had to enable "Location" in the settings app
The reason I didn't find it was because it was "hidden" under "Privacy & Security". I'm sure all of that will be baked in to the Welcome app at some point to save you from having to go look for everything yourself, so no biggie!
