#Metadata mutability may sound harmless, but it can distort research metrics and misattribute credit.
To ensure fair and responsible #ResearchAssessment in #OpenScience, freezing and versioning metadata is critical.
Here, #OpenAIREGraph CTO @paolomanghi breaks down both the risks and possible solutions.

🎤 Keynote Speaker Announcement!

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr @lizziegadd as keynote speaker at Opening Research Assessment on Wednesday, 12 November 2025 (9:45–10:45).

As Head of Research Culture & Assessment at Loughborough University, Vice Chair of #CoARA, and Chair of the #INORMS Research Evaluation Group, Lizzie actively contributes to international discussions on responsible research assessment. In her keynote, “Should we be assessing openness openly or at all?”, she will explore the unintended consequences of current assessment reforms and how we can build fair, inclusive systems that truly incentivise Open Science.

Université de Lorraine publishes its CoARA action plan, though a bit renamed, to advance research assessment through the launch of communities of practise.

ZenodoCoARA approach at Université de LorraineThe Université de Lorraine joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) at the end of 2022, after signing the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) in 2021, and participating in the organization of the first European Open Science Conference in early 2022, which launched the Paris Call for Research Assessment under the aegis of the French Presidency of the European Union. CoARA aims to move the evaluation of research and the assessment of research staff careers towards a more qualitative process, combined with a responsible use of quantitative indicators. Its implementation is fully in line with our five core values of universality, creativity, reflexivity, solidarity and responsibility. Therefore, this document proposes the organization of a collective reflection at Université de Lorraine level on how to evaluate individual and collective research activities, in line with CoARA commitments. This document does not propose any predefined actions, but essentially outlines methods and ideas for new developments. It builds on the progress already made following the signing in 2021 of DORA, the San Francisco Declaration on the Evaluation of Research. In fact, theestablishment has already significantly transformed its career evaluation tools for rapporteurs, by involving the communities.

@graspos publishes the third edition of "Connecting the Dots: Monitoring Open Science at university level for research assessment ".

Following the GraspOS Community of Practice meeting held on 22 January 2025, Rita Morais from @EUA, Ana Đorđević & Biljana Kosanović from the University of Belgrade, and I, answer questions and share insights on Open Science Monitoring in our respective organisations, and its links with research assessment.

Today is the 23d birthday of the Budapest Open Access Initiative.
budapestopenaccessinitiative.o

BOAI is still active and issued its 20th anniversary recommendations in 2022.
budapestopenaccessinitiative.o

Unlike previous BOAI statements, which made many recommendations, the 20th anniversary statement deliberately focused on just a small number of top priorities:

1. Adopting #OpenInfrastructure
2. Reforming #ResearchAssessment
3. Moving away from #APCs
4. Moving away from #ReadAndPublish agreements.

I'm proud of my association with the #BOAI, #BOAI10, and #BOAI20.

Happy #ValentinesDay to all who are working for #OpenAccess worldwide.
