#tryHackMe has a new certification out, the Security Analyst Level 1 or #SAL1 for short. I will NOT be covering it on my channel to assess its #accessibility for #screenReader users, because in a sense I already have. I did a stream on their #SOC simulator recently which is a big part of this cert, and that was a disaster. Add to that that on the "About' page, they couldn't even be bothered to #altText the one logo in the descriptive text makes me feel it is utterly unnecessary to even give this a chance. It's a #fail. plain and simple.

Ok, we're almost done with these. I have literally one more video to make.

VERDICT: ...yeah sorry guys but it's bad. It's really bad, actually.

I'd say at the very least half of the tasks are not doable outright due to bugs in the #tryHackMe platform if you use a #screenReader. From the ones that ARE doable, some require advanced knowledge a beginner just wouldn't have, which is a problem for a supposed beginner-friendly event.
I did manage to flag down someone who might actually be able to fix some of the issues I've pointed out for years. Here's hoping we FINALLY see some improvements in 2025 but given the current track record... yeah, not holding my breath. I'm a #blind person and i'll believe it when I see it. #adventOfCyber #infoSec #accessibility

I've been busily working away at the #aoc2024 videos and today, in about an hour, we'll do several more days of it on stream. For those who are new, fully #blind #cybersecurity enthusiast tackling these challenges with a #screenReader and commenting on the #accessibility
- Yes, actually blind.
- No, no remaining vision.
- Yes, since birth.

Last year around this time, I did the #THM #AdventOfCyber event and recorded myself going through the various tasks to highlight the myriad #accessibility problems I was sure to encounter, because 2022's event was disastrous where this was concerned. Let's just say I was not disappointed, but I got some engagement from #tryHackMe staff during and after the event about possible improvements. Some improvements were even made during the event!
I'm looking at the initial tasks now and see that nothing whatsoever was learned from this experience. No #altText on screenshots, connection cards, we're back to square 0. And I'll be recording every gory detail once more this year, likely not willing to be as nice as I was last year. Keep an eye on youtube.com/@blindlyCoding for deets. #infoSec #cybersecurity #AOC2024

Today training about #ThreatHunting with #Wireshark by Chris Greer was very good. Great selection of pcaps from various stages of the cyber attacks inspired us to ask questions and discuss together in depth details and anomalies hidden in the packets.
Also the private room on #Tryhackme platform works great. It is nice to see our progress during the course and receive the instant feedback.

To be humble, I do not know Chris before this training and I was not really sure what to expect from today (I originally registered for the different Threat Hunting training, which was later replaced by this one). But now I can really recommend Chris and his training to everyone interested in packet analysis and network intrusions. Good job and thank you.

For those who are new, I am a fully blind #developer, #hacker and #contentCreator focusing on #accessible #gaming and #tech, in general. One of my Twitch channels is called IC_Null.
The IC_Null streams were a direct sequel of sorts to my #tryHackMe #adventOfCyber 2023 runthrough where we looked at #accessibility of their material from a fully #blind perspective. I gave them a bunch of feedback and tips and some of it was even acknowledged, multiple times. So you can imagine that when I heard they have a brand new #cybersecurity 101 path, I decided to stream my initial impressions to this, as well. Did they learn from their mistakes? Will we win any fancy swag vouchers? COme find out in about an hour over at twitch.tv/IC_Null or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding

So ...let's face it. A LOT of folks in tech circles are somewhat amazed a fully #blind person can even find the power button on a computer, let alone operate it professionally. I am such a person, and I'd like to bust that myth.
It's also true that many #hacking tools, platforms, courses etc. could use some help in the #accessibility department. It's a neverending vicious circle.
Enter my new twitch channel, IC_null. On this channel, I will be streaming #programming and #hacking content including THM, HTB and who knows what else, from the perspective of a #screenReader user.
What I need, is an audience. If this is something you reckon you or anybody you know might be interested in, drop the channel a follow or share this post. Gimme that #infoSec Mastodon sense of comradery and help me out to make this idea an actual thing :) twitch.tv/ic_null #tryHackMe #streamer #selfPromo
