@mcSlibinas @Gustodon

i think #realism can be defined as nothing more than #idealism shaped by experience

you still aim to the good goal

but now you know the road is not simple

so you continue towards the good goal, but you get there with the tools that adversity taught you, which can be called #cynicism

cynicism (as a personality, not as a tool as you say and i agree) is sitting down on the side of the road and giving up. cynicism as a personality is giving in to adversity, a failure mode

exactly

1. #idealism is a form of failure. which is not a condemnation of idealistic people. we all start out as idealists in life

2. #cynicism, as idealism's mirror image, is also a failure. it's what naturally follows from step 1 because of inevitable adversity

3. maturity is using idealistic thoughts to guide you, but filtering it through what cynicism teaches:

#realism

the problem is people stuck on step 1/ 2

all of us should strive to reach step 3

“In Plato’s Timaeus you begin to see what we would now call dualism… Aristotle systematizes this… Even so, radical dualism has not yet appeared. Leap to the 1600s. René Descartes codifies mind–body dualism… All subsequent modern philosophy wrestles with that divide—some thinkers tilt toward mind (idealism), others toward matter (materialism)… Contemporary cognitive science debates—“the hard problem” of consciousness—are variations on those early-modern dilemmas. For tens of thousands of years animism was humanity’s baseline; the last few centuries are the anomaly.”

Two receivers, one station.

So this is a little bit fascinating.

The link will take you to a YouTube clip from the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. It starts of with an interview of two Australian identical twins following a car jacking, and then Jimmy Kimmel interviews them live.

Pay attention to the synchronicity of speech and the instances where they simultaneously speak the exact same words.

Here is the video (I have skipped forward to the relevant segment).

A materialist/physicalist, who believes that consciousness is produced by the brain might say that this is simply a case of identical twins having the same brain architecture (and as sisters, a similar lived experience) that predisposes this sort of matched speech.

A panpsychist or idealist, who believes that consciousness is transpersonal would suggest that this is a case of two receivers being tuned to the same radio station (the mind at large).

What do you think?

A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt

All men in whose character there is not an element of hardened baseness must admit the need in our public life of those qualities which we somewhat vaguely group together when we speak of “reform,” and all men of sound mind must also admit the need of efficiency.
There are, of course, men of such low moral type, or of such ingrained cynicism, that they do not believe in the possibility of making anything better, or do not care to see things better. There are also men who are slightly disordered mentally, or who are cursed with a moral twist which makes them champion reforms less from a desire to do good to others than as a kind of tribute to their own righteousness, for the sake of emphasizing their own superiority. From neither of these classes can we get any real help in the unending struggle for righteousness.
There remains the great body of the people, including the entire body of those through whom the salvation of the people must ultimately be worked out. All these men combine or seek to combine in varying degrees the quality of striving after the ideal, that is, the quality which makes men reformers, and the quality of so striving through practical methods — the quality which makes men efficient. Both qualities are absolutely essential. The absence of either makes the presence of the other worthless or worse.

In this image I tried to weave together indigenous Australian dot-painting technique with Byzantine mosaics of Jesus and Hindu depictions of various deities to try to signify common threads between Eastern and Western forms of philosophical Idealism as well as the indigenous Australian 'Dreamtime'. Notice the eyes looking up toward the figure's right hemisphere.

"For Chomsky and Robinson, these claims are nonsense. Not only did the young American republic fulfill its Manifest Destiny by waging a genocidal campaign against the indigenous population, but it has since backed a bevy of brutal dictatorships, intervened to thwart democratic processes in many countries, and waged or backed wars that killed millions of people in Indochina, Latin America, and the Middle East, all while falsely claiming to be defending freedom, democracy, human rights, and other cherished ideals. U.S. officials are quick to condemn others when they violate international law, but they refuse to join the International Criminal Court, the Law of the Sea Treaty, and many other global conventions. Nor do they hesitate to violate the United Nations Charter themselves, as U.S. President Bill Clinton did when he went to war against Serbia in 1999 or as President George W. Bush did when he invaded Iraq in 2003. Even when undeniably evil acts are exposed—such as the My Lai massacre, the abuses at Abu Ghraib prison, and the CIA’s torture program—it is low-level personnel who get punished while the architects of these policies remain respected members of the establishment.

The record of hypocrisy recounted by Chomsky and Robinson is sobering and convincing. No open-minded reader could absorb this book and continue to believe the pious rationales that U.S. leaders invoke to justify their bare-knuckled actions."

Logical justifications to believe in Analytical Idealism:
1. It makes good sense
2. It is well substantiated by empirical evidence
3. It is consistent with all observations
4. It explains more of these observations than materialism does
5. it is the most parsimonious metaphysical model (i.e. it doesn't assume unknowns for it to be upheld)

“The qualities we attribute to physicality—form, color, temperature, consistency, concreteness, etc.—are merely appearances; they are how a fundamentally psychic ‘world-soul’ presents itself on the screen of our perceptions. Such idealist interpretation allows all of Jung’s key metaphysics-related contentions—not only synchronicity—to cohere elegantly and parsimoniously.”
