#askfedi what are your favourite #VPS these days? I'm new to it, will run very basic services on it (#pihole , #deltachat , ...) so I need a cheap one, based in #europe .

I seem to hear good stuff about #hetzner and they seem cheaper than #commbell or #ovh .

After more than 5 years, Pi-hole is now finally available in nixpkgs/NixOS!

The package request was one of the most upvoted nixpkgs issues.

There were other good options with comparable functionality before (adguard-home, blocky), but it's still nice to have for people migrating from non-NixOS pi-hole.

Das heutige #pihole update ging übrigens voll in die Hose und hat mein komplettes DNS im Heimnetzwerk gekillt. Ich konnte nicht herausfinden, was der Fehler war. Es half nur eine Neuinstallation von pi-Hole. Anschließend das Backup meiner #openmediavault installation als loop gemountet und versucht die Konfig wieder herzustellen. Auch das hat geklappt. Am längst hat das entpacken gedauert ;)

It all started relatively innocently when I set up #pihole and #tailscale on my devices.

Folks, can I use #NextDNS *and* #PiHole in #tailscale? Perhaps PiHole with NextDNS as its backend?

(for the purposes of this question, "break" includes having to perform any kind of workaround, not just a fully blocking break)

This time I talk how I am blocking ads and trackers from all my devices, including mobile phones. I do that using PiHole and Tailscale, and thanks to using Tailscale the whole setup process is very simple, any device I add to my private network gets adblocking automagically.

I finally took the time to update #Pihole to the latest v6. It all went smoothly other than a minor hiccup with custom dnsmasq config. Feels good to be up to date again!
