Hey #paleobubble and fellow fossil nerds, What would be a good name for a company building #dinosaur and other #paleontology #exhibits for #museums? We plan to include hands-on science labs, the latest research, and original fossils in our displays. Four suggestions in the poll below, multiple choices are possible. Please add your own suggestions in the comments and boost boost boost! Now I'm curious
FInal post: 5/n of a visit to the Shanghai Natural Wild Insect Kingdom on 23 June 2024. A Pig-Nosed Turtle (Carettochelys insculpta), Common Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina), Alligator Snapping Turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) and Mata Mata (Chelus fimbriata).
Post 4/n of a visit to the Shanghai Natural Wild Insect Kingdom on 23 June 2024. A Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) and two Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum), a wild and leucistic form. The leucistic (white) form is the one usually found in captivity, which is why most people think the Axolotl looks like that.

I would love thoughts on ideas for the creation of digital exhibits. My university offers a number of platforms supported by almost as many groups. I have working with them to see if there is the opportunity to better coordinate services because that is what our faculty would like. What platforms do you use? What are the services that support that platform? How do you preserve exhibits once the exhibit is over? #digitalhumanities #GLAM #libraries #exhibits #highered

@sociology
@histodons "Going Out, Coming In" is installed at Mill City Museum in Minneapolis; opening is June 1. It's a privilege to have my and @libraartsmajor's writing brought to life by Emily Marti's designs. Big thanks also to Dave Stevens and Molly Jessup at MCM for hosting/organizing the exhibit in their beautiful space.
A long toot for this #FollowFriday, my first one on this instance.
I find that #Mastodon’s coverage is surprisingly good on a number of topics. With more people joining by the day, it is getting better very rapidly.
I would like to mention a few here:
- #photography, especially #naturephotography
- #astronomy and #astrophysics
- #climatechange and #sustainability
- #Ukraine and the #war with #Russia
I’m happy to recommend specific accounts here. I would suggest, if you are interested in any of those #subjects, that you first run #followgraph on my handle, to identify the relevant ones.
If you don’t know followgraph, have a look at this fantastic tool to enhance #discoverability: https://followgraph.vercel.app/
There are others areas, for which I need to spend more time to identify interesting accounts.
-#architecture, particularly #modernism and #contemporary #architects.
@concretelibraries is great. Do you have others you like?
- #arts, notably #finearts, #museums and current #exhibits. There is @NationalGallery@mastodonall.uk. A number of famous painters have their own bot, broadcasting images of their work, often without context. Who else would you recommend?
- #cinema: I have a couple of good handles on the history of the 7th art: @Cinematologists, @cinemaetpol (in French), @MoviesSilently. I could use more, notably on #currentmovies, #directors and #actors.
-#jazz #music
I’ve recently discovered a few good handles for #classicalmusic. I would love suggestions for jazz and #blues.
Stopped by the updated DinoSphere at Children’s Museum of Indianapolis (a misnomer at this point, they’ve got collections, curators, and amazing exhibits thanks to a spigot of Lily Foundation money).
The accommodations for low vision visitors were an impressive surprise! #ADA #museums #exhibits #dinosaurs
Still a #newbie here, but it’s time to make an #introduction. I’m a #GenXer nonpartisan #leftie in #Regina #SK. Once upon a time I got a BFA in Stage Mgt & Tech #Theatre and worked around the country for 10 years. Left that behind because of #burnout and moved onto a new path. My skills transfered over well to #museum work. For the last decade I’ve been part of the #exhibits team at the Royal Sask Museum. I love museum work and hope to be at it for the long haul! #pets #books #gaming #movies
