Strava also recorded a PR with time 3:25:52 -- this was ~6min reduction from my previous PR. As expected, mile-20 killed me with a long climb on the bridge: I strategically walked a few times and it paid off. Alphafly 3 served me well w/ no issues.

I'm pretty happy w/ the result: was expecting just under 3:30 with this EG (~800ft)! I'm now much closer to BQ time 3:20:00, and my next #marathon #race will be the crazy 220-laps around #UW #Drumheller in June -- hey but it's flat!

For today's #fossilfriday , here's a trace fossil, Ophiomorpha! These are the traces of burrows originally made by crustaceans. The nodules on the outside are the fossilized remains of the crustacean's faeces, which are used to strengthen the side of the burrow. This behaviour can also be seen in modern-day ghost shrimp.

These were found near the boundary of the Bearpaw / Horseshoe Canyon formations.

Ophiomorpha, a reddish tube-like rock with nodules on the outside. There is a red pocket knife next to it for scale.

Temp felt like 50F w/ mild breeze. A little drizzle in the beginning & some sun in the end.

The first 19 miles were easy, but at mile 20 I started to have trouble with left ankle. Switching to more cushioned shoes (ASCIS Gel-Nimbus 25) got me through the remainder of the run.

This is actually the first time full #marathon was included in #Drumheller race, so in addition to the very pretty medal we got a nice book about #UW's history.

#Drumheller #Marathon (raceconditionrunning.com/drumh) day: I woke up at 3:30am, drove to #UniversityOfWashington at 4:30, and started running at 5:30. 220 laps later, I broke a bunch of PRs:

Marathon: 3:38:57, pace 8’21”/mile
Half M: 1:43:59, 7’56”/mile
15K: 1:13:26, 7’53”/mile
10K: 48:03, 7’44”/mile

Sunset on the Hoodoo Trail near Drumheller, Alberta. I visited Calgary in July 2021, and a friend suggested visiting the badlands. I had no idea what the area was like, but it ended up being just as much a highlight of the trip as Banff was.
