Where could I find docs for historical versions of #OpenSSL? I'm trying to set up a CA for #RetroComputing machines with OpenSSL 0.9.6b, but the little bit of documentation that came with it isn't telling me much. Basically need to create a CA certificate I can put on client machines so that they won't complain about self-signed certs.

In case you haven't seen it yet, check out the analysis of the devastating state of [mostly] modern #OpenSSL by members of haproxy at https://www.haproxy.com/blog/state-of-ssl-stacks - hard to imagine such massive performance regressions getting into mainline linux distributions unnoticed by the distributors. #linux #ssl
“AWS-LC looks like a very active project with a strong community. […] Even the recently reported performance issue was quickly fixed and released with the next version. […] This is definitely a library that anyone interested in the topic should monitor.”

#tls #openssl excellent thought provoking write up from Willy Tarreau and team at haproxy.com https://www.haproxy.com/blog/state-of-ssl-stacks#recommendations-for-haproxy-users TLDR openssl3.x is a performance train wreck at scale and if you are a large site you should consider alternatives.
