...oh god what day is this? I know I didn't post yesterday...but it's been like a two day gap? That's pretty good indicator, right?
day 7 i think?
anyway, i'm going to be a bit lazier as the trip goes... but i'll try to keep relevant updates.
The only real not worthy thing... as calls don't work (don't call it a #bug, call it a #feature), I did get suspend locked up because the phone swore it was in a non existing call. So I had to reboot.. only the second maybe third reboot of the trip. Otherwise... ish is fine. It's real hard not running #topgrade tho~
Do I wish I had app equivalents to ride sharing and food ordering? Absolutely... but as someone that cannot dev.. I can only try to fund ish... So I refuse to complain about it. And to be honest I could try Android Translation Layer, but that feels like that's missing the point, and the web sites mostly work... #uber is a pita tho.

Is there a good writeup / overview on how cameras on mainline #mobilelinux work and where you can tweak things?
I'm asking because the back camera on my #pixel3a flashes and the picture sometimes freezes and I would like to look into fixing this. I just have no Idea how cameras work on linux and I'm unsure where to start.
Day 5
Uneventful. And isn't that what we want? I haven't rebooted since I have arrived. I might reboot tomorrow as #snapshot seems to be ... having some blinking screen issues. #megapixels seems to be working now though lol... I want to build megapixels 2.0... but... might need to upgrade and everyone is telling me not to...

Day 3
Well firstly, I messed up some of the tags for Day 2...
my-place.social/display/e59937…
One slightly annoying thing that I forgot on my journey, usb... I could not plug in the phone into the car... it insisted on using some non existing network and would disconnect my network connections.
Anyway, Day 3 though... The only thing of note is, I ran into some issue with #peanutbutter ... I don't know exactly what happened... but I had to do a hard reset due to peanutbutter working but not taking inputs. For all the months I've used peanutbutter.. this is a first. I'm chaulking it up to a random fluke.
Speaking on battery... I'm spoiled. As a #pinephone refugee, I was used to paying extra attention to battery usage. Which is why I've always really dug #tui software (it has zero about how neat I find them as well /s). So, as I turned off suspend for my journey, I plumb ass forgor to turn it back on today... and ish was actually fine... like I used only like 50% of the battery with zero suspending. I didn't do a lot but my activities today:
GPS to a place around the corner
Spend most of the day chatting on #weechat #gomuks and mms/sms. I kept tabs on my M$ apps for work via web apps as well as made a few replies. That said, I missed zero calls (fuck scammers and promote #scambaiting ), I had zero sms or mms get stuck in the modem. We'll see how tomorrow goes with suspend on.
(hopefully i dont fk this up)

Day 2...
So... I think I need to address the audio overflow issues I'be been having. Like, day one on #pmos on my pixel 3a I've seen random buffer overflow... I've just ignored it. While the device did get fairly warm... it wasn't more than my regular android phone would get, but I had two reboots happen in an 11hr drive. Given, audio has rebooted and frozen the phone in the past, I can't say navigating was the issue. Also, I #puremaps worked well... but obivously waze navigated a quicker route. There were a few questiobable decisions puremaps decided on routing... like getting off a highway for an exit and getting back on... While I relied on waze, puremaps would have gotten me there... reboots aside. But yes, otherwise I had #qutebrowser monotoring my work communiques. I was streaming a twitch stream (shout out to #theunexpectables) for a good chunk too... which was a little much...should have done audio only
@devrtz @NGIZero @snwh #Debian's experimental distribution now has #ModemManager / #libqmi snapshots to test this more easily. These versions also include support for qmi based modems as found in the #OP6, #Pixel3a and similar devices
Upstream snapshots announced here: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/modemmanager-devel/2025-June/010050.html
The port of Sailfish for the OnePlus 6 has the best performance out of all the ports currently imo. I recommend giving it a try.
Dear #linuxmobile community, my linux-phone-as-daily-driver-journey took me from 2years of #librem5 (everything functions, but way to slow & outdated software) to 1year of #op6t (perfect phone - except that calling is not reliable:D) to some months of the #pixel3a now. feels like this could be the happy end of my journey, because you can actually use it as a fast-enough phone!:) a minor thing is however the missing gps: does anybody know if that can be fixed? or is it a hardware thing?
Finally got a chance to load up #PostmarketOS on a #pixel3a . It's still not ready for prime the but damn... it's exciting to watch it get better.
EDIT: For all those people asking me why it's not ready for prime time, I've got a new website and I think my first post should be a more detailed set of issues (large and small) that I've found with #PostmarketOS. Give me a week or two.
And thanks for all the boosts and favourites! My most popular post yet?
This #Pixel3a may be the first #postmarketOS powered device or even first #Phone EVER to build and run the #Kuroko #Python dialect!
#GitHub repo for Kuroko (made by the same guy who created ToaruOS and even he ported Kuroko to UEFI):
https://github.com/kuroko-lang/kuroko
(Built on master branch directly from #pmOS which is cool!)
UPDATE:
https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/merge_requests/78565
Now attempting to get Kuroko officially in Alpine repos!
I want to change my old #Pixel3a for a more recent #GooglePixel phone, mostly because of the photo quality. The #Pixel8 seems good and is the most compact, which is also important to me. Any thought or opinion on this model?
I have had this photo lying around for almost a month now... it's probably about time to finally post it.
postmarketOS device group photo! :D
For #linuxmobile #postmarketos #mobian folks interested in cameras: there's a first version of patches for #libcamera softwareISP color correction matrix (CCM) support now: https://patchwork.libcamera.org/cover/22041/
Together with autofocus (AF) this probably the main missing feature to get a somewhat reasonable image quality on devices like the #pixel3a or #fairphone5 with open drivers / close to #mainlinelinux.
For #linuxmobile / #postmarketos / #mobian etc. folks: there's a rather beginner friendly task to improve battery life for qcom devices like the #oneplus6, #pixel3a etc. by making sure sensors are idle when not needed.
If you have some spare cycles, motivation, basic C literacy (or want to learn it) and know how to build and deploy/test a package with pmbootstrap (or want to learn it) - this one could be for you.
The details are here: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/2455#note_453587
Fastfetch, how is my #pixel3a going ?
Alive and kicking in its tenth day since reboot !
